Common fixes
Four things account for almost every message we get. Work through the matching card first.
Accessibility permission
- Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility.
- Find Copyo. If it isn't listed, press + and choose it in
/Applications. - Turn the switch on, authenticating with Touch ID or your password if macOS asks.
- Quit Copyo and open it again — macOS often hands a new permission only to a freshly launched process.
Copyo needs this one permission to paste directly into the app you came from. Without it, it copies the item and asks you to press ⌘V yourself.
Paste isn't working
- Check the paste target. Settings ▸ General ▸ Paste Items: To active app pastes directly, To clipboard only copies.
- Check Accessibility. A toast saying "Press ⌘V to paste" means the permission is missing.
- Reset the permission. Switch Copyo off and on again in Accessibility, then relaunch. Removing the entry with − and re-adding it clears a stubborn one.
- Try a different app. A few apps refuse synthesised keystrokes, and secure fields block pasting altogether.
Pasting several cards of different types falls back to pasting the first one alone; the toast says so.
iCloud sync isn't syncing
- Same Apple Account on both Macs — System Settings ▸ [your name]. Sync only ever moves data inside one iCloud account.
- iCloud Drive on — System Settings ▸ [your name] ▸ iCloud ▸ iCloud Drive.
- Sync on in Copyo, on every Mac — menu-bar icon ▸ iCloud ▸ Sync with iCloud. Copyo relaunches itself; that is normal, and required.
- Read the status line at the top of the iCloud submenu: Sync Off, Syncing…, Synced 3 minutes ago, No iCloud Account, or an error.
CloudKit is not instant, especially on a slow connection — give it a moment, and copy something new.
Purchases and Restore
- Sign in on the Mac with the same Apple Account that bought Copyo.
- Open Copyo ▸ Settings ▸ Subscription.
- Click Restore Purchases. The status line changes to your plan straight away — no relaunch needed.
- Still locked? Check the App Store app is signed into that same account, then try once more.
There is no Copyo account — purchases belong to your Apple Account, so a new Mac just needs to be told to look.
Nothing is being captured
- Is capture paused? Click the menu-bar icon. A dimmed icon and a Resume Copyo row mean it is paused; pick it to resume.
- Is the source app ignored? Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Ignore Applications. Remove the app with − if it should be captured.
- Is the content flagged? Password managers mark their copies as confidential and Copyo skips them by design, as it skips transient and auto-generated content. Both toggles are in Settings ▸ Privacy if you truly want that content in history.
- Is the trial over? Capture stops while the app is locked. Any purchase, or Restore Purchases, starts it again — and your existing history is untouched.
When sync looks wrong but isn't
Old clips are missing on the second Mac
That is by design, not a bug. Clips from before you turned sync on never upload. Copyo keeps a local database and a synced one; everything captured while sync was off stays in the local one, on that Mac. Nothing is hidden or deleted — the panel shows both side by side. To move an old clip into iCloud, copy it again, or put it on a shelf created after sync was turned on.
Items are disappearing from one Mac
Retention is per-Mac, but deletions mirror. A Mac set to Keep History: Month trims items, and that trim reaches a Mac set to Forever. Set the same retention window on both, in Settings ▸ General ▸ Keep History. Shelved items are exempt everywhere.
Changing or cancelling a plan
To change or cancel a subscription, go to App Store ▸ Account ▸ Subscriptions. Apple bills for Copyo and handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com — see the Terms of Use and the refunds page.
Keyboard shortcuts
The global shortcut (⇧⌘V), the shelf keys, and the Quick Paste and plain-text modifiers are all configurable in Settings ▸ Shortcuts.
A shortcut won't record
The global shortcut needs at least one modifier key, and a combination another app already owns is refused — the recorder shows "Shortcut unavailable" and keeps the previous combination. Pick a different combination, or free the key in the other app. Reset shortcuts to default… puts every row back.

Before you write
- Your macOS version.
- Your Copyo version — menu-bar icon ▸ Settings; the version is shown at the bottom of the sidebar.
- What you copied, and which app you copied it from.
- What happened — and what you did just before the problem appeared.
Never send passwords or anything you would not want in an email. The privacy policy has the full data story on what stays on your Mac and what iCloud sync moves.
